About Us

Who We Are

Born from the continental mandate to retire the hand hoe to the museum, we are the driving force behind the operationalization of the Framework for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization in Africa (F-SAMA).

Since our inception, we have evolved from a policy initiative into a robust community of practice, utilizing the AfricaMechanize platform to connect stakeholders, catalyze investment, and share critical knowledge. Our mission is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable, inclusive, and climate-smart mechanization technologies that transform livelihoods across the agricultural value chain.

AfricaMechanize is a Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (SAM) platform aiming to enhance knowledge management, information sharing, networking and partnerships in Africa. The platform has been developed to support the African Union (AU) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) F-SAMA initiative, with FAO providing technical support and African Conservation Tillage Network (ACT) providing secretariat functions.

AfricaMechanize is focused on contributing to the operationalization of all elements of F-SAMA given the cross-cutting nature of knowledge management. It is an open, all-inclusive, not-for-profit neutral platform addressing the SAM and developmental interests of all AU Member States with support of national governments, extension services, research institutes and the academia, private sector and development partners.

Our Core Values

Commercial Viability

We believe that for mechanization to last, it must make business sense. We promote innovative financing and robust supply chains to ensure that farm power and technology are accessible, profitable, and commercially sustainable for farmers and service providers alike.

Environmental Stewardship

We are committed to sending the hoe to the museum without harming the land. Our approach centers on Sustainable Agriculture principles, ensuring that mechanization supports sustainable land preparation, soil health, and climate-smart husbandry practices.

Inclusive Empowerment

We drive socio-economic growth by prioritizing the people behind the machines. We actively support the roles of small-scale farmers, women, and youth, focusing on human resource development and capacity building to ensure no one is left behind in the transition.
