Paswel Marenya

Paswel Marenya holds the position of principal scientist and is the Associate Director (a.i)
for Africa in the Sustainable Agrifood Systems program at CIMMYT based in Nairobi,
Kenya. With a background in agricultural economics, he has over 15 years of continuous
research and early teaching experience focused on the sustainable intensification of
smallholder agricultural systems in Eastern and Southern Africa. Through micro-level
approaches, his work has covered policy and market enablers for agricultural growth,
gender equity in input use, and preferences in smallholder agricultural policy. Marenya
earned his degrees in applied economics (MSc), natural resources policy (PhD), from
Cornell University and agricultural economics (MSc) from the University of Nairobi. As a
leader of multi-country projects and an author of many publications in peer-reviewed
journals, Marenya's contributions have significantly advanced our understanding of the
pathways to sustainable agricultural intensification including those based on CA systems.
